Computers are amazing machines that can do many things for us, such as playing movies, rendering graphics, running games, playing music, and running heavy editing software. It seems like magic, but how do computers get this power?
The secret is speed. Computers can do simple things very fast. How fast? An average computer today can perform a limited set of operations billions of times in a second. This is measured by the clock speed of the computer. For example, if your mobile or laptop has a clock speed of 2.6GHz, it means it can perform 2.6 billion cycles per second. That’s astonishing, right?
But not all processors are the same. Some can perform more or less instructions per cycle, depending on their design and architecture. The latest processors with lower clock speed can outperform older processors with higher clock speed because they are more efficient and optimized.
There are also other factors that affect the computer’s speed, such as RAM, hard disk, core of processor, cache, etc. These components work together to make the computer faster and more powerful.
To understand how speed works visually, let’s take an example of the display. When we watch a movie on the computer, we are actually watching a series of images that change very fast on the screen. The computer does this by changing the pixels on the screen very fast by performing the same simple instructions over and over again. The pixels change so fast that our eyes can’t catch them. This creates an illusion of a moving scene in our minds.
The same principle applies to high-end games. The computer generates each frame of the game in real time according to the player’s actions by performing billions of simple instructions per second. Each frame is a complex image that requires a lot of calculations and processing. The faster the computer can do this, the smoother and more realistic the game looks.
So now we know how computers get their power. They use speed to create complex results from simple operations. Speed is the secret of their magic.
